Week 6: just recorded our final version of our TV show, all in all I feel that our TV show went well and we were able to run through smoothly although sometimes we did fall into some technical faults especially with the mics given to the presenter but we were able to communicate with each other which made it more helpful and easier to fix the problem. I feel that my role as the sounds mixer was done to my best ability and I was able to adjust any problem associated with sound during the production. even though some takes were not as good as others for me I still feel that it went well.

week 5:
we watched a playback of our first take of out programme, this was both beneficial and a good learning experience for our group. there are many areas which need to be improved upon such as focusing and the amount of cuts between shots. I feel that for our first take that it is not that bad and we did include the a range of shots but we defiantly need to make sure that everything is sequenced well. we also watched a clip from the music quiz show Never mind the Buzzcocks which helped in what factors we need to improve on for example they constant cuts between the presenter and the guest/contestants.

Studio session:
today we were in the studio rehearsing our game show which was very interesting, we had a few error/technical hitches but we were able to address them quickly. I was in the gallery controlling all the sound levels of everything on set. most of the time the sound levels were good but with some clip-on mics the sound levels were not that great so it was my job to try and sort that out.

Week 3:
Final idea/Roles and responsibilities
The group decision was to make a music game show programme where contestants would have a  song played to them and will have to guess the title and artist of the song.
I was allocated the role of the sound mixer so I will be responsible for recording all the sound on  set during production.

Week 2:  Pitching Proposal

we were able to pitch our individual ideas for what type of show we would want to create. my idea was to create a game show consisting of two teams who answer a range of  question on different topics to gain points. for each question wrongly answered a team players will be disqualified and the last question will have the most points to give with both teams competing against each other. for this question each team are allowed to selects any member ( either from their team or the components team) to help answer the question.

TV Studio: Roles and Equipment

Director: the director mainly works behind set and are responsible for co coordinating the structure of the show such as camera movements and shots and communicating with people who are on set. additionally, if there are any errors/problems the director gives direction to the people on set and tells them what to do.

Vision mixer: the vision mixer (based in the gallery) takes instruction from the director and visually create the programme by applying effects such as dissolves, transitions, video clips and pictures during recording. this roles requires a lot of concentration and multi-tasking.

Teleprompter: this is the small screen placed at the bottom of the camera and where the presenter will be reading off. there will be someone controlling the speed of the teleprompter in the gallery.

Camera operator: the camera operator is in charge of filming all the footage and take instruction from the director regarding what shots to use. they also need to make sure that the camera is set up before filming starts. they must be able to watch and listen while they carry out technical tasks.

Floor manger: they are in charge of everything that happens on set, they get instructions from the director to make sure everything is in order. the floor manager will have headphones on so they can communicate with the director. task included are checking earphones, microphones are working properly. keeping the director and producer informed of anything off-camera. giving cues, countdowns to the presenter/talent.

Talent/presenter: this will be the main person talking in front of the camera throughout the show. the equipment used are a microphone, clip on microphone.

Sound mixer: this person will have the control of all the sound levels used to get the best possible sound quality.

Sound effects operator: this is person is in charge of controlling all the sound effects used during the show such as applauding, buzz noses, theme music.
Studio session:
we were able to go into the TV studio and we learned about all the different roles needed in a production which included a quick session on the equipment that we will be using during production. I was particularly interested in the directors/floor managers role as it consists of a lot of coordination and organisation.

we were also given a worksheet to evaluate our experience in the studio and discuss what we had learned. I learned what all the different roles contribute when creating a TV programme and what equipment they use.

Week 1
While being in the TV studio we were able to learn about all the equipment such as the cameras, teleprompter, sound control, visual mixer and many more. By doing this I got a more stronger understanding on all the different sectors/fields within a TV production.  I was also able to participate in different roles such as camera woman, floor manager and sound control.
